Welcome to our web site. I hope that you can find all the information you need but I thought it might be useful to have an introduction from the Head Teacher.
Prendergast Hilly Fields College is an 11-18 girls’ school with a co-educational 6th form. We have four forms of entry into years 7 -11 and pride ourselves on knowing each student individually. Our results are outstanding at GCSE and A level and there is an expectation from year 7 that our girls will achieve highly and stay on to the 6th form. Once in the 6th form there is a similar expectation that students will continue to reach their potential and gain places at universities. We were founded in 1890 as Prendergast Grammar Schools for Girls.
Our entrance criteria are in the prospectus, we are non selective but do offer 10% of places in year 7 to students with particular aptitude in music.
We offer a wide range of extra-curricular activities and expect all students to attend annual school journeys in years 7-9 – these help students to develop a positive approach to achievement and relationships.
Relationships between staff and students are excellent and girls do achieve their potential. Our expectations are very clear; I do not expect staff to waste valuable teaching time on dealing with behaviour, so students who do not behave properly are taken from class and families contacted.
We are very proud that our Ofsted judgement was outstanding in all areas and we were described in the report as exceptional.
Please do take the time to read through our prospectus – either for year 7 or year 12.
Dear Parents and Guardians
The new build
After 8 years of planning and preparation our new build and refurbishment of the top site is now finished. It is glorious and I believe that our students and staff have the best facilities and learning spaces in South East London! We will be having an open morning once our snagging has finished and I know that you will like it as much as we do. I am sure that your daughter/son/ward will tell you about it. I would like to thank the Authority for their support and Costain the building contractors for their determination to give us an outstanding, extremely high quality building.
I am pleased to tell you that as usual we are fully staffed with excellent staff. We welcome Mr David Sheppard as Executive Head, Mr Shaw as Head of Maths and Ms Damoo as Associate Head of Maths, Ms Temenu who is second in charge of English, 2 new members of the Science Department – Ms Clements and Ms Veysey, Ms Fox is covering Ms Doughty’s maternity leave and Ms Zerrougui as cover assistant. Ms Bamfo will be supporting our 6th form learners.
We are once again thrilled with all of our exam results.
Our year 13 students achieved a 100% pass rate for yet another year.
A ¼ of our grades were at A* or A. 19 students achieved at least 2 A and a B grade. Notable results include Rebecca Rumney who achieved 2 A*and 1 A grade, Alice Troy Donovan 1A* and 3 A grades, Daisy Hatton, Zoe Cutts, Ursula Rafferty, Renee Simpson and Matilda Muir all achieved 1A* and 2 A grades. Over half of the grades were A*-B.
Every student who had planned to go on to Further and Higher education has been successful in gaining a place. Students are going to a wide range of universities and will be studying a wide range of subjects. We have one student going to Oxford to study English. Other subjects being studied include Medicine and Veterinary Science. Approximately 35% of our students received offers from Russell Group universities.
We are elated to have gained our best ever GCSE results, this has meant that we have the best GCSE results in the area. 75% of our students achieved at least 5 grades at A*-C including English and Maths. 16% of the year group achieved at least 10 A*and A grades. We would like to congratulate our students whose hard work has been justly rewarded, and to thank the staff for their commitment and support.
The vast majority of students have chosen to remain in our highly successful 6th form. There are a very limited number of A level courses with spaces. If anyone is interested in joining us in the 6th form they should contact the school urgently.
Anyone considering applying for our 6th form next year I would urge you to attend our open evening on Tuesday November 5th and apply early.
Best wishes for the new academic year
