Welcome to our web site. I hope that you can find all the information you need but I thought it might be useful to have an introduction from the Head Teacher.
Prendergast Hilly Fields College is an 11-18 girls’ school with a co-educational 6th form. We have four forms of entry into years 7 -11 and pride ourselves on knowing each student individually. Our results are outstanding at GCSE and A level and there is an expectation from year 7 that our girls will achieve highly and stay on to the 6th form. Once in the 6th form there is a similar expectation that students will continue to reach their potential and gain places at universities. We were founded in 1890 as Prendergast Grammar Schools for Girls.
Our entrance criteria are in the prospectus, we are non selective but do offer 10% of places in year 7 to students with particular aptitude in music.
We offer a wide range of extra-curricular activities and expect all students to attend annual school journeys in years 7-9 – these help students to develop a positive approach to achievement and relationships.
Relationships between staff and students are excellent and girls do achieve their potential. Our expectations are very clear; I do not expect staff to waste valuable teaching time on dealing with behaviour, so students who do not behave properly are taken from class and families contacted.
We are very proud that our Ofsted judgement was outstanding in all areas and we were described in the report as exceptional.
Please do take the time to read through our prospectus – either for year 7 or year 12.
A Happy New Year to everyone
As you will know we had a full Ofsted inspection in November last term. The procedure is for any school that they phone one afternoon and arrive early the next morning so that they get a real picture of the school.
We gained the top grade of outstanding in all areas: Achievement, Quality of Teaching, Behaviour and Safety of Pupils, and Leadership and Management. This is our 3rd outstanding inspection report in a row – a very rare occurrence nationally. We are very proud of all our students and staff. You can read the full report by clicking on the logo at the side of the page.
This is a crucial term for students studying for public exams as the final exams start in April. I would ask you to ensure your daughter/son/ward attends the revision sessions which are running on 8-10 April and a number of Saturdays. School is also open every Saturday morning at the top Park site for private study with use of the ICT rooms. These opportunities make a real difference to students’ results and it is important they attend. You will be getting a detailed timetable soon and any queries should be addressed to Mrs Moore.
The senior leadership team are busy interviewing all of our present year 11 students to offer them support through to their GCSEs and to discuss their 6th form application. We have had over 250 students applying from schools outside of the Federation so we will be heavily oversubscribed. Please remember that Prendergast year 11 students have priority for our 6th form as long as they achieve the necessary grades.
We have a number of school journeys this term, year 7 are going away for a weekend. Year 9 are looking forward to their amazing trip to the Dordogne, France in the summer term. We also have silver and bronze award expeditions for Duke of Edinburgh Award. I am absolutely confident that attending residential trips has a positive impact on student learning and achievement.
I hope that you received our end of term newsletter, if not it is available to down load on the web site, it includes reminders about uniform. If you have any queries about uniform please check the uniform page in the diary.
We had a number of highly successful events in the last weeks of term including a wonderful music celebration, an end of term entertainment put on by the year 11s and an excellent Christmas Fair - I would like to thank all parents/carers, students and staff who worked so hard to make the fair such an excellent day.
I wish everyone health and happiness for 2014
